Petauke — GOVERNMENT has said it plans to completely scrap all fees in schools but is currently constrained by the huge amounts of money being spent on the purchase of maize through the Food Reserve Agency (FRA).
Vice-President Guy Scott said this when he paid a courtesy call on Chief Nyamphande of the Nsenga-speaking people at his palace in Petauke District yesterday.
The vice-president is in Petauke to drum up support for Patriotic Front (PF) candidate in the Msanzala parliamentary by-election that takes place on February 16, 2012.
He said once the Government had secured all the maize bought by FRA, it intended to channel the resources to the education and health sectors to improve the lives of the people.
Dr Scott is accompanied by Agriculture Minister Emmanuel Chenda, provincial Minister Solomon Mbuzi, Eastern Province Permanent Secretary Hloboteha Nkunika and several Government officials.
He said the ruling party would embark on issue-based campaigns in the Msanzala by-election.
Meanwhile, Chief Nyamphande urged all political parties taking part in the Msanzala by-election to refrain from engaging in physical violence.
He said the people of Msanzala should show unity during the campaigns and allow the best candidate to carry the day.
