Intercultural relationships: How does society perceive these kind of relationships?

Hi there,
My background is Caucasian and I have been dating a Ghanaian for the past 2 years.
I encountered that quite a percentage of people do not (or are not willing to) acknowledge this type of relationship. It is upsetting as we are living in such a diverse society and that there are still so many ignorant people and people with barriers in their minds amongst us. Personally, I haven't had really bad experiences so far, it were mostly weird looks thrown at us but I know that couples have been physically and violently attacked because of their choice of partner.
it would be great if you would share your experiences with me and if we could engage in a vivid exchange of opinions . Thanks
